There is no express provision in the Dental Council (Continuing Professional Development) Regulations 2016 which prohibits the Dental Council from conducting CPD courses.
2. Accepting only 4 Online CPD Points
Under section 29A(1) of the Dental Council Act, a registered person has an obligation to follow such continuing professional development courses or training programmes as may be approved by the Council. Therefore, the decision of the Dental Council to accept only a maximum of 4 Online CPD points from approved online websites is in legal order and falls within the mandate of the Council.
3. Post of Acting Registrar
Pursuant to section 10(6) of the Dental Council Act,
“If the Registrar is for any reason unable to carry out his functions, the Council may appoint another person to act as Registrar.”
It is important to note that on 2 different occasions, the post of Registrar was advertised and published in newspapers, but no applications were received.
