INFORMATION
Pursuant to Dental Council (Continuing Professional Development) Regulations 2016, paragraph 5(1) and 7(a) which read as follows:
5(1). Where an institution, dental association or person intends to conduct CPD courses or training programmes for dental surgeons and dental specialists, it or he shall –
a) submit an application to the Dental Council for approval in such form as may be approved;
b) submit a list of proposed CPD courses or training programmes, accompanied by the detailed course contents and the allocation of credit points as specified in Part I of the Schedule, for approval.
7. Every approved institution, dental association or person shall –
(a) advertise the approved CPD courses or training programmes which it or he intends to conduct, specifying the number of credit points to be earned in respect of each course or training programme
As a matter of fact, following the last Council election held in December 2024, the
re-constitution of the board is still being awaited. Thus, in absence of the board NO CPD program/events can be approved, hence NO CPD points will be earned by attendees of the dental profession.
It is noted with concern that GMDOA, an approved CPD provider, published its CPD course on 03 March 2025 and started taking payments from dental surgeons/dental specialists, prior to submitting its application form dated 05 March 2025 which was hand delivered at the seat of Dental Council on 10 March 2025.
In the light of the above, the Dental Council wishes to bring to the attention of all registered dental surgeons and dental specialists, that it is the duty and responsibility of each approved CPD provider to seek the approval of the Council prior to advertising any CPD course. To note that as a common practice, all Council’s approved CPD courses/programmes are published on the Dental Council’s website.
All registered dental practitioners are advised to consult same.
